Pro Tools was the first software program of its kind. Developed in 1989 as Sound Tools, the name was changed to Pro Tools in 1991. Digital recording slowly became the dominant form of recording through the late 90’s, and today, most major recording studios are using computer-based platforms – namely Pro Tools. But is Pro Tools a necessity for the Home Recording Studio engineer? Many would argue that one’s audio interface, microphone, recording environment, and general knowledge of the craft far outweigh the equipment, or software programs, utilized.
Our community of audio enthusiasts, from newbies to pros, all have different perspectives on the need to convert to Pro Tools. What do you think?
